NZEB Open Doors Ireland

Our Nearly Zero Energy Buildings Open Doors event is taking place on the weekend of the 8th – 10th November 2013. This event, which is taking place in 10 countries under an Intelligent Energy Europe programme, is very similar to the Open House event, though with a focus purely on very low energy buildings. We will also be running NZEB Open Doors Ireland in 2014 and expect it to become a continuing annual event thereafter.

The aim of the Nearly Zero Energy Buildings Open Doors is to enable people visit really good examples of low energy new build and retrofit projects in order to inspire them to aim for similar standards for future projects. So far, we have over 40 buildings participating nationwide including:

  • A wide variety of residential projects, a Passive House School in Moynalty County Meath, commercial buildings including the Bord Gais Networks building in Finglas and the certified Passiv Haus supermarket in Tramore, a Passive house nursing home in Kildare.
  • Also, all of the winners of the Isover Energy Efficiency Awards 2013 will be open for the event and we will continue to add participating buildings to the website right up until the event.
  • The Cloughjordan Eco Village is also arranging for visits to multiple properties.

Building owners and, where available, the architects / builders involved in their project will provide guided tours and will explain the project from concept right through to completion, including building fabric, renewable systems, how the building meets their expectations in terms of comfort levels, energy bills etc.

All visits are free but do need to be booked in advance. You can view the participating buildings and make bookings through our website
