Energy Action provides a free home insulation service to qualifying households. This service aims to improve the energy efficiency and comfort conditions of homes occupied by low-income and elderly households. As a Dublin based charity, our free home insulation service is confined to the greater Dublin area. However, Energy Action links with 23 other Community Based Groups (CBOs) spread throughout the country, delivering a similar service

Energy Action delivers the SEAI Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme. This is a free home insulation service to qualifying households.

Energy efficiency measures delivered under this service are:

• Attic Insulation
• Cavity Wall Insulation
• Draught proofing
• Insulation of pipe-work and water storage
• Hot Water Cylinder lagging jacket
• Energy Saving light-bulbs (CFLs)
• Energy Advice

You may be eligible for the service if you are living in a Non-Local Authority Home constructed before 2006 and if you receive either of the following allowances:

• Winter Fuel Allowance as part of the National Fuel Scheme (a weekly payment of €20 paid from Oct to March each year)
• Job Seekers Allowance for over six months and with children under 7 years of age
• Family Income support.

If you qualify for this free service, Energy Action will be happy to send a qualified surveyor to your home to check what insulation measures are needed. A team of qualified installers will carry out the necessary insulation work. Having your home adequately insulated is a particularly effective way of cutting heating bills, as for example around 35% of heat can be lost through an attic without insulation. It will also add greatly to the comfort level of your home.
